Above Everything Is —
Exactly where you belong.
A private mountain estate in Aspen — designed with the quiet confidence of a home that has nothing left to prove.
The House
Built for the mountain.
Designed for the guest.
There are properties that happen to be in Aspen. And there are properties that could only exist in Aspen.
Whitmore Summit House is the second kind — drawing its identity entirely from the landscape it inhabits, the light that moves through it, and the specific quality of stillness that arrives when the last lift closes and the mountain exhales.
Alexander Whitmore spent three years working with a Denver-based architectural studio to create a residence that honored the materiality of the Colorado high country without romanticizing it. Warm walnut millwork. Hand-formed stone. Steel-framed windows that frame the mountain like paintings that change with the season.
The interiors draw from a palette Ralph Lauren might recognize as kindred — aged leather, heavyweight linen, dark brass, and the specific warm grey of a cloudy Aspen afternoon. Every piece was sourced or commissioned for this specific house. Nothing chosen from a catalog.

The Neighborhood
A small mountain town
that has earned every word.
Whitmore Summit House sits above Aspen at the head of the Roaring Fork Valley — eight thousand feet, surrounded by the Elk Mountains and the White River National Forest. The town below is fifteen square blocks of brick Victorian storefronts left over from the silver boom of 1879, now home to four ski mountains, a serious music festival, and the most considered restaurants between Denver and the coast.

The Four Mountains
Aspen Mountain (Ajax)
Steeps directly above town. Gondola from Durant Avenue. No beginner terrain — Ajax is for skiers who already know.
Aspen Highlands
Highland Bowl hike, the iconic 12,392 ft summit. The locals' mountain. Cloud Nine for long lunches.
Buttermilk
Home of the X Games. Gentle pitches, the family mountain, and Bumps for breakfast.
Snowmass
The largest of the four, fifteen minutes down-valley. 3,300+ skiable acres and the Cirque.
The Table
Element 47
The Little Nell's flagship. Wine list runs to twenty thousand bottles.
Matsuhisa Aspen
Nobu's original Aspen room, on East Main. Black cod, omakase, the bar at the back.
Bosq
Foraged, seasonal, deeply Coloradan. The reservation in town to plan around.
Cache Cache
Provençal, white tablecloths, four decades of regulars in the Mill Street Plaza.
Pine Creek Cookhouse
Cross-country ski or sleigh in to dinner at 9,750 ft up Castle Creek.
Steakhouse No. 316
The supper-club steakhouse on East Hopkins. Dry-aged ribeye and a martini.
The White House Tavern
Reservations don't exist. The fried chicken sandwich does.
The Hours Off the Mountain
Maroon Bells
Ten miles southwest. Two of the most photographed peaks in North America. Shuttle in summer; backcountry in winter.
Hotel Jerome
1889. The J-Bar still pours the Aspen Crud. The lobby in front of the fire on a snow day.
Aspen Art Museum
Shigeru Ban's woven facade on East Hyman. Free admission, rooftop café.
Independence Pass
12,095 ft. Open Memorial Day through early November. The drive every guest remembers.
Smuggler Mountain Road
The morning hike. Town below, Elk Mountains across the valley, dogs everywhere.
Aspen Music Festival
Eight weeks each summer. Eight hundred student musicians. The tent at Benedict Music Hall.
Aspen/Pitkin County (ASE)
4 miles · private and commercial
Eagle County (EGE)
70 miles · larger jets, year-round
Denver International (DEN)

From Our Guests
In their
own words.
We have stayed in some of the finest properties in Aspen over many years. Whitmore Summit House belongs in a different conversation. The design is remarkable, the mountain views are extraordinary, and the level of preparation communicates a standard of care we have rarely encountered.
Alexander has built something genuinely special here. Beautiful in photographs and even more so in person — which is the exception, not the rule. The hot tub at night with the mountain to yourself is worth the trip alone.
I have stayed in luxury vacation rentals managed by large hospitality companies and I have stayed in Whitmore Summit House. The difference is the feeling that someone actually cares. Every detail reflects the personal standard of someone who built this home for themselves.
We hosted a corporate retreat for eight senior partners. The house team was responsive, discreet, and impeccably professional throughout. For a group that expects a great deal, this was exactly that — and more.

Whitmore Summit House
Some winters
you forget.
Some you spend the rest
of your life trying to return to.
The light on the mountain at seven in the morning. The fire in the great room at the end of a long ski day. The hot tub at midnight with the Elk Mountains entirely to yourself.
